When do I schedule an inspection?: Permitted projects require inspections during the process of the construction. An appointment for an inspection should be made no less than a half working day in advance.

For example: To schedule a morning inspection an appointment must be scheduled no later than the afternoon prior to that morning, and for an afternoon inspection no later than the morning prior to that afternoon.

1. When do I need a building permit?: Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, reroof, reside, or change the occupancy of a building or structure; or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system needs a building permit.

3. When am I Exempt from a Permit?: Learn about projects that do not require a building permit.

4. How much time does a permit allow me to build?: Every permit issued shall become invalid unless the work authorized by such permit is commenced within 180 days after its issuance, or if the work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days after the time the work is commenced. The building official is authorized to grant, in writing, one or more extensions of time, for periods not more than 180 days each. The extension shall be requested in writing and justifiable cause demonstrated.

5. How long does it take to issue a permit?: New construction requiring a plan review may take up to 2 weeks depending on the type and complexity of the project you are working on. Projects similar to re-roofing, re-siding, and sign permits may be issued in 1 to 4 days depending on the complexity and completion of the submittals.

7. Do agricultural buildings require a permit?: The Minidoka County Zoning Ordinance exempts agricultural buildings from the requirements of a full building permit. The building is eligible for this exemption if the building and the land parcel meet the definition and land parcel criteria as established in the Minidoka County Zoning Ordinance.
